Roadrunner Men's Golf Conquers Challenging Ashbrook Course with Best Effort of Season

Roadrunner Men's Golf Conquers Challenging Ashbrook Course with Best Effort of Season

The RCSJ Golf team posted its lowest 4-man total of the season on a swampy and challenging Ashbrook course in action on April 20th in Scotch Plains, NJ.

Steve Burek once again dominated the day with a low score of 77, besting the next lowest man from another team by 10 strokes.  However, the story of the day was Freddie Ramos' blistering 79, which is nearly 20 strokes better than his 18-hole average score this season.  Ramos' outstanding round was highlighted by a conservative approach off the tee which helped him keep the ball in play on the muddy course.

The Roadrunners posted the low team score of the day, topping 2nd place Morris by 68 strokes and outpacing Union, Middlesex and Camden, as well.

Also performing well were and contributing to the team scoring were Tyler Geatens (83) and Jacob Bruno (89).

"Steve continues to play well and set the pace for us," noted Roadrunner Coach Guy Davidson.  "Tyler played a solid round and pushed Steve as they played in the same group together.  I'm really proud of and pleased with Freddie's effort today.  He's been working hard on his game and it showed on the scorecard today.

"Jacob's ball-striking was outstanding today, but he had a tough time with shorter putts.  The way he hit the ball today would typically produce a much lower score for him."

Coach Davidson was also pleased with the efforts of Mike Marconi, Brandon Magin and Phil Hanway.

"Mike Marconi hit a lot of great shots today … he is unquestionably the leader of this team and has taken that leadership role very seriously," said Coach Davidson.  "He handles much of the communication with his teammates and truly sets the tone for how we practice and compete.

"It was nice for Brandon and Phil to be able to play today without the pressure of having to post a score that we needed to count on.  Brandon hit several good shots and outperformed a number of other golfers today.  This was Phil's first time on the course during an event, so it was helpful for him to get that experience."

The Roadrunner golfers will next be in action on Monday April 26 at Pitman Golf Course after postponing the event from April 21 due to weather conditions.

According to Davidson, "We appreciate our Athletic Director, Mr. Rowan, and Union Coach Marc Postiglione going the extra mile to allow us the opportunity to compete this week after being rained out last week at Flanders Valley.  The team was hungry to compete again and turned in its finest performance of the season.  This sets us up well for our upcoming home event vs. Stockton U, Rutgers-Camden, and Middlesex."
