All-Decade Teams 2010-2019: Men's and Women's Cross Country

All-Decade Teams 2010-2019: Men's and Women's Cross Country

Roadrunner Athletics is pleased to announce our All-Decade Teams throughout our sports programs for 2010-2019. Today we feature the Men's and Women's Cross Country All-Decade Teams.

The program has enjoyed excellent success in the past 10 years with the women's program winning an NJCAA National Championship in 2012 and the men's team earning national runnerup honors that same season. The program has produced a lengthy list of All-Americans, many of whom incidentally helped the Roadrunners win consecutive NJCAA National Men's Track and Field crowns in 2018 and 2019 and a Women's T & F National title in 2013.

So, as the overseer of successful national-caliber programs, how difficult was it for Coach Ryan Hughes to select All-Decade Teams in both sports?
"It wasn't too difficult because of the times these runners posted," said Hughes. "The only difficult part was that we could have added 2 or 3 more runners to each team easily,"

See below for the selections of the Men's and Women's Cross Country All-Decade Teams.

In addition to the All-Decade Team selections, Roadrunner Athletics also announced the following picks:

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Decade -- Ozzie Huerta, National Champion in 2010, All-American with 5th place 2011, national record holder with a time of 24:57, and Roadrunner Athletics Hall of Fame Honoree.

Women's Cross Country Runner of the Decade: Catherine Dougherty, National Championship team member 2012, National Championship team runner-up in 2013; only two-time cross country All-American in the decade, with 7th and then 2nd place finishes; earned All-Region honors twice; Region XIX champion in 2013.

Men's Cross Country Team of the Decade: 2012; Finished 2nd in the nation. Team members: Korey Jeffries, Brian Simmons, Joe Zeoli, Frank Miklosey, Justin Gervasi, Joe Sacco, Erik Hudson, Hussein Kobeissi, Josh Battle.

Coach Ryan Hughes on special bond between members of 2012 women's and men's teams, which placed first and second in the nation respectively:

"The men's team that year places second in the nation but they were overlooked by the women winning the national championship," said Hughes. "So who had the loudest rooting section in the entire meet? Yep, the runners on the men's team were out there cheering the loudest for the women's team. They were genuinely happy the women won nationals, even though the men fell just short. The runners on both teams were really good friends, and they've always stayed in touch after they left college."

Women's Runner of the Decade Catherine Dougherty on her career at Gloucester County College:

"Winning a national championship as a team and my relationships with my teammates has been the greatest experience of my life. Our team members really enjoyed our time at Gloucester County College and we've remained life-long friends. We're extremely proud of our accomplishments."
