Softball Takes on St. Louis CC on St. Patrick's Day

Roadrunner Softball slips to 4-5 overall after dropping an extra inning shootout with St. Louis CC in Cocoa Beach, FL. Jackie Lesher pitched a complete game and was tough all day helping to keep the Roadrunners within striking distance of the win.

The Roadrunners fell behind in the top of the first but took what looked like a commanding lead in the third inning. The Roadrunners loaded the bases and Mackenzie long drew a walk scoring the first run of the inning then freshman Mackenzie Ponto cleared the bases with a grand slam HR. The HR was the first in the collegiate career for the newcomer from West Deptford HS.

St. Louis added one run in the top of the 5th but the Roadrunners answered with two more of their own in the bottom of the inning. Nicole D'Amico scored on a Mackenzie Long triple then Long scored on a double by Olivia Farina.

This game which lasted three hours was marked by serveral swings in momentum. Trailing 7-2 headed into the top of the 6th inning, St. Louis (5-2) scored 7 runs and took back the lead in the contest. The Archers added another run in the top of the 7th.

Farina collected another RBI in the bottom of the 7th when Hadely Cressman scored on her single to left field. Kelsee Murphy then delivered one of the clutch hits in the game when she doubled in two runs on a 1-2 count with two outs. Ponto was thrown out at home trying to score the game-winning run but this sent the game to extra innings.

St. Louis was able to score three runs in the top of 9th inning and the Roadrunners answered with one in the bottom of the 9th but left two baserunners stranded to end the game 13-11.

Sophomore Gia Cerminaro went 4-5 in the game to continue her hot start at the plate, she is batting .519 through 9 games to lead the team.
