Murphy Slams Home Run and Collects Four RBIs to Help Runners Sweep Ocean CC

Centerfielder Kelsee Murphy cracked a home run while collecting two hits and four RBIs to lead the Roadrunner softball team to an 10-2 victory over visiting Ocean County College and a sweep of a doubleheader Thursday afternoon.

Coach Steve DePasquale's Runners won the opener 8-0. They now have a 19-9 overall record and are No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Division III National Rankings.

Murphy also had a triple and a sacrifice fly to add to her solid afternoon at the plate. Teammate Miranda Booras chipped in with three hits and one RBI. Also picking up multiple hits were Gia Cerminaro, Jaclyn Lesher and Christina Wilgus.

The Runners will face nationally-ranked Lehigh Carbon in a doubleheader in a 12 noon start Saturday.

In Game 1, winning pitcher Jaclyn Lesher allowed two hits and struck out four as the Runners blanked the Vikings 8-0 in five innings. RCGC exploded for six runs in the third inning to break open a tight game. Mackenzie Ponto, Mackenzie Freas, Mackenzie Long, Hadley Cressman, Kelsee Murphy, and Olivia Farina each drove in runs during the inning. Lesher and Cerminaro had two hits apiece while Ponto also collected two hits and two RBIs.
