Opening Day: Roadrunner Softball Rallies to Topple Mercer CCC

Catcher Macenzie Long and right fielder Paige Fox collected three hits and one RBI each while pitcher Lacey Abrego knocked in two runs to help the Roadrunner softball team win its season opener 10-5 over visiting Mercer County Community College Tuesday afternoon.

The Runners fell behind 4-0 in the top of third inning before rallying with a runin the third and four in the fourth to take the lead for good at 5-4. They added another five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to close out the scoring.

First baseman Brooke Cooper and left fielder Gabrielle Cirucci chipped in with two hits each. Freshman Lacy Abrego allowed four hits in relief over three innings to pick up the save for winning pitcher Sabrina Finneran.

The two teams were scheduled to play a second game, but the game was called due to darkness after two innings.

Next up for Coach Steve DePasquale's Runners will be Delaware Tech in a doubleheader Sunday starting at 12 noon.
