Red-Hot Roadrunner Softball Earns Sweep of Doubleheader over D 2 Lackawanna College

Sometimes you just need to make the most of what's in front of you.

That was the case for the red-hot Roadrunner softball team, which extended their win streak to 9 games with a sweep of Division 2 Lackawanna at home Thursday.

Victoria London and Kamryn Kennedy led an improbable Game 2 comeback in which the Runners rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 win and a doubleheader sweep.

Behind 4-3 entering the final frame, London tied the game with an RBI infield single with two outs. Normally a solid line drive hitter, Tori
hit a slow roller off the handle of her bat and used her solid speed to beat out the hit with two outs and score a run from third base.

"I just bolted out of the batter's box and all I cared about was beating it out," said London. "I was thrilled that we tied the game."

Up next stepped Kennedy with runners at the corner, and she promptly slammed a hard ground ball directly to shortstop -- but the smash was too hit for handle and scooted away in the infield as the winning run scored.

"I didn't know where I hit the ball, so it was great to see it got away from the shortstop," said Kennedy. "That was a great celebration we had when the run scored."

The Runners fell behind at 4-1 entering the sixth inning, but pinch-hitter Selena Chila delivered a two-run single to cut the deficit to 4-3.

In Game 1, Flynn Blessing cracked a two-run double as the Runners posted a 7-4 victory. Chila earned the win on the mound with Janiece Robles picking up the save.

Next up for the Runners (34-17) is a scheduled doubleheader Saturday at  home vs. Union County College, weather permitting.
