Roadrunner Softball Falls to Middlesex in North Atlantic District Championship Game

Middlesex College won the deciding Game 3 of North Atlantic District Championship series in a 2-0 win over the Roadrunners Wednesday.

With the triumph, the Colts earned an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division III Championship Tournament in Syracuse, NY.

Winning pitcher Kaitlynne McCarthy iwas selected as the tourney MVP. She won two of her three games pitched in the tournament while also knocking in the game-winning runs in sixth inning of the championship game.

Roadrunner pitcher Janiece Robles, but performed well in only allowing two runs over seven innings.

Games 1 and 2 Results

It's all tied up at 1-1! Roadrunner Softball and Middlesex College split the first two games of their Region 19 / North Atlantic District Championship series Sunday -- and now face a winner take all elimination game on Wednesday, May 18.

The Roadrunners prevailed 5-0 in Game 1. Freshman pitcher Janiece Robles went the distance for the win, hurling 7 shutout innings in a brilliant performance. 

The Runners got off to a fast start as Tori London delivered an RBI single to spark a 4-0 lead after the first inning --  although the standout third baseman left later with an injury.

In Game 2 the Roadrunners dropped a tough 10-6 decision to Middlesex as the Colts tied the series at 1-1. The Runners moved out to a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning as Kamryn Kennedy produced an RBI hit, but the Colts later erupted for 9 runs in the fifth to take a commanding 10-3 lead. It was a deficit the Runners could not battle back from.

The deciding Game 3 will be played Wednesday at RCSJ. Watch for details.

Day 1 Update

The Region 19 / North Atlantic District Softball Championship series between the Roadrunners and Middlesex College has been rescheduled for Sunday afternoon, May 15th, starting at 2 pm at the Roadrunner Softball Complex in Deptford, NJ.

Tournament Preview

Roadrunner Softball will host the championship series for the NJCAA Region 19/North Atlantic District this weekend. The team will host Middlesex College in a three-game series with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in Syracuse, NY.

The Runners, coached by veteran Steve DePasquale, ended the Spring 2022 season on a high note, winning gtheir final 11 regular season games. The team finished with a 36-17 overall record, which included two wins over the Colts in April.

Top players for the Runners include shortstop Emily MacGibeney, one of the nation's leading hitters in Division III, outfielder Paige Fox, and first baseman Brooke Cooper, among others.

Middlesex turned in a solid 21-6 overall record, including a 14-4 mark in Region 19.

The two opponents are set to play Game 1 at 12 noon on Saturday followed by Game 2 at approximately 2 pm. If necessary, a deciding Game 3 will take place Sunday.
