MacGibeny, Roadrunners Launch Offensive Attack in Doubleheader Sweep Over Central Lakes -Brainerd

The Roadrunner Softball team swept a pair of games over Central Lakes College-Brainerd Sunday, and head coach Steve DePasquale is pleased with the progress of his team at this point in the young 2023 season.

The Runners won Game 1 by a 5-3 score and Game 2 by an 8-6 count. The games were played in the Space Coast Complex in Florida, where the Runners (5-3 overall) are in the midst of playing some of the nation;s top junior college teams.

"We're hitting and scrapping, and so far so good," DePasquale said. "We hit the ball well today and we had 30 hits in out two games on Saturday. Plus, the pitching is starting to pick up too."

Shortstop Emily MacGibeny led the offensive assualt in both games with 2 hits and an RBI in Game 1 and four hits and 4 RBIs in Game 2.

Julia Petroski and Dana Medlar also contributed key hits in the Game 1 win while freshman Emily Adams picked up her first career win on the mound, striking out 6.

In Game 2, sophomore pitcher Janiece Robles picked up the win with MacGibeny, Anna Cirucci, and Paige Fox collecting key hits at the plate.

On the trip, freshman pitcher Gemma Galloway, a Gateway High grad, has also registered two wins as well to improve her record to 3-0.

The Runners are back in action Tuesday vs. games vs. Iowa  Central and Anoka-Ramsey before finishing Wednesday with a doubleheader vs. Spoon River CC.
