The Roadrunner wrestling team will be back in action this Saturday when they compete in the Annual Long Island Open, hosted by Nassau Community College.

The Runners, coached by second-year skipper Dan Antonelli, are off to a solid start to the 2019-20 season with an 8-3 dual meet record and several wrestlers featuring impressive individual records, including Dylan Fischer at 165 and Tyler Baer at 174. Fischer recently grabbed his second straight Bob Quade Cyclone Open Championship at 165 pounds, turning in a 4-0 record, including three pins. Fischer has registered a 13-0 overarall record to date.

Baer, 10-2 on the season, placed third in last season's 174-pound weight class at the Long Island Open, and he hopes to bring home a championship.

The Long Island tournament will feature close to 200 wrestlers from over 14 NCAA Division III and NJCAA schools and clubs competing. The defending team champion is Baldwin-Wallace College, a perennial NCAA D-III power.

Participating schools include defending champion Baldwin-Wallace and Nassau CC among others. This will be the second straight season for Antonelli's wrestlers to participate in this tournament.

"No doubt this will be a great test for us," said Antonelli. "We're hoping to walk away with multiple individual championships, but some wrestlers will need to step up."
