Roadrunner Nick DiGiacomo Earns All-American Honors with 5th Place Finish in NJCAA National Wrestling Championships

Sophomore standout Nick DiGiacomo finished fifth overall in the 125-pound weight class in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament in Council Bluffs, IA Saturday, earning All-American honors for the 2022 season.

DiGiacomo, a former Timber Creek High wrestler, lost by Fall and then finished his day with a win by medical forfeit to take 5th place at 125 pounds.

He finished the tournament overall with a 3-2 record and became the fourth Roadrunner to earn All-American honors in recent years. Teammate Jaden Roberts pulled off the feat last season at 184 pounds while Dylan Fischer (165 pounds) and Tyler Baer (174) also earned All-American status in Winter 2020.

Opening Day Results

RCSJ sophomore wrestler Nick DiGiacomo advanced to the NJCAA National Wrestling Championships quarterfinal round at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, IA to
highlight opening day action in the tournament.

DiGiacomo advanced to the 125-pound quarterfinals with a 6-3 round of 16 triumph over Northeastern's Brayden Mogle. DiGiacomo, however, dropped his quarterfinal bout by a 6-1 decision to Clakamus' Nick Aguilar. Earlier in the competition DiGiacomo scored an impressive 11-5 decision over Aiden Harris of powerhouse Iowa Central.

Other Roadrunner wrestlers are competing as well. Returning All-American Jaden Roberts captured a first-round 3-1 overtime decision over M. Sene of Cowley College -- but he was forced to withdraw from the tournament following an injury in a third-round bout.

In other action, Tion Cherry drops a tough 6-3 decision in his opening match. Shamar Baines and Andrew Knorr have moved into the consolation brackets.

The National Championship Tournament continues at the Mid-America Center on Saturday, March 5.
