Roadrunner Women's Soccer Gains Statement Win Over Host Suffolk County

Sophomore Nikki Tricocci and freshmen Bailey Sweitanski and Crystal Johnson all scored first half goals for a fast lead, and the No. 2 nationally ranked Roadrunners held on for a 3-1 win over host Suffolk County in a showcase of NJCAA regional powers Sunday.

Both the Roadrunners and Suffolk competed in the NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament last season!

Freshman Ella Van Dine recorded two assists while freshman goalkeeper Grace Vit had two saves. Suffolk hit the scoreboard late in the second half at 71:00 on a goal by Ariel McDermott.

The Runners improved to 10-1 overall on the season. Since suffering their first loss of the season to Brookdale the previous week, the Runners have won three straight with wins over Montgomery (PA), Bergen CCC and Suffolk, and continue to show improvement, said coach Megan Ruttler.

"We had a bad outing against Brookdale, but we are picking up the pieces and making the adjustments we need to," she commented last last week. "We will face adversity again down the line and we need to be ready."

Next up for the Roadrunners will be an away match at Middlesex on Tuesday, Oxct. 12 in a 4 pm start.
