Roadrunner Volleyball is looking to turn the corner in 2018 and earn a place among the top programs in NJCAA Region XIX. The team took the first step on Saturday when they swept the competition during a tri-match at Lehigh-Carbon CC.
In the opening match, the Roadrunners went the distance with host Lehigh-Carbon before collecting the win. Megan Shook took the lead for the team with a number of well-placed serves in the final set that helped pave the way to the win. The setter from Sterling Regional HS made an impact on the match on nearly every point.
Head Coach Rebecca Pierson commented, "Megan is the key, she touches every play. When you have some as experienced as she is, then you can get the ball up to have great attacks and take swings and she makes everything a lot easier on her passers and hitters."
Sophomores Azhyianna Redd and Emily Tate were on the receiving end of a number of terrific sets from Shook and took advantage by swinging freely and finishing a number of key points for the Roadrunners. The sophomores helped settle the match down after a slow start that saw the Roadrunners drop the first set.
Pierson commented, "For the sophomores, this is really important. It took us a while to get our first two wins last year so to have that already really has our confidence at an all-time high."
RCGC took the second and third sets but then dropped the fourth setting up a dramatch finish. Shook and Redd dominated the final set as Redd put away a number of balls at the net and Shook finished out the set with some great serves including a service winner on match point.
