Second baseman Jose Correa knocked in two runs on a double and a single, including the game winner in the bottom of the seventh, as the Roadrunner baseball team slipped by visiting Monroe College (NY) in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Sunday.
The Runners then completed a perfect 4-0 weekend by routing Monroe 9-3 in Game 2 for a sweep of the twinbill. On Saturday, Coach Rob Valli's team swept Rockland Community College by scores of 16-1 and 5-2.
RCGC now boasts a 13-1 overall record, winning 13 straight after a close opening-day loss.
In Game 1 Sunday, Correa slapped an infield hit to score teammate Albert Munoz with the winning run. The Mustangs had tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh.
Winning pitcher Erick Duran hurled 3 13 innings in relief, surrendering one run on three hits. Starting pitcher Mike Biasello allowed six hits and struck out 8 in 3 2/3 innings.
In Game 2, designated hitter Alex Gattinelli ripped a home run and two RBIs while knocking in 4 runs to help the Runners to a 9-3 decision.
Winning pitcher Joe Marino improved to 2-0 as he hurled 3 2/3 innings and struck out 5.
The Roadrunners, No. 3 in the latest NJCAA Division III rankings, will host second-ranked Cumberland in a key matchup Monday starting at 3:30 pm.
