Freshman catcher Kyle McSorley contributed offensively and defensively, as the Roadrunner Baseball team toppled visiting Salem Community College, 14-4 Wednesday to formally clinch the Garden State Athletic Conference championship.
The win helped the No. 1 nationally ranked Division III Runners improve their overall record to 37-3 and 24-0 within the conference.
But, according to McSorley, his team's impressive won-loss record pails in comparison to the camaraderie and professionalism he has been a part of during this 2025 season, one in which the Runners hope to win their third straight NJCAA D III national crown.
McSorley, a top prospect from Old Bridge High School, has turned in a sizzling .371 average with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs entering Wednesday's contest. He is one of the leaders of a potent RCSJ lineup that may be the best in the entire nation.
"Our lineup is awesome and our coaching staff is the best around," said McSorley. "Everyone works hard -- the goal is to win. And that's what we do -- we win. It's a great atmosphere!"
McSorley and his teammates performed well Wednesday in securing a two-game sweep over the Mighty Oaks, who dropped to 16-8 overall. The Runners jumped out to an 11-0 lead before scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to help close out the 14-4 seven-inning win.
Next up will be a home game vs. Division II Lackawanna College on Thursday, April 24, before the Runners embark on a weekend series vs. Delaware County Community College.
