GAME DAY: Strickton, Phy Lead Way as Runners Blank Brookdale CC

Josh Strickon (Washington Twp.) and Justin Phy (Triton Regional) scored goals while goalkeepers James Bartolotto (Gloucester Catholic) and Connor Rink (Haddon Hts.) combined for a shutout as the RCSJ Men's Soccer team blanked host Brookdale Community College 2-0 in a key Region XIX and GSAC contest Saturday afternoon.

Strickon drilled his goal into the net at the 2:02 mark of the first half with an assist from Anthony Macklin (Eastern) for a 1-0 lead. Phy netted his score early in the second half with an assist from Francesco Fazzolari (Glassboro) for a 2-0 advantage.

Bartolotto registered five saves in the first half while Rink made two spectacular stops in the second half to secure the outcome.

The Runners, who had a tie against Union in their previous outing, outshot the Jersey Blues 14-10 overall in the game played on turf at the Capelli Complex in Tinton Falls.

"We played a well-balanced game both on the offensive and defensive sides," said Coach George Hobbins. "Brookdale is a quality opponent and it's tough to beat them on their home turf, so we're happy with everyone's performances."

Next up for the Runners, who improved to 5-1-1 overall, will be a road match at Ocean County College on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Game Preview

Roadrunner men's soccer look to continue their Region XIX playoff quest on the road Saturday, September 21, in a key match hosted by Brookdale Community College at the Capelli Sports Complex in Tinton Falls, Monmouth County. The game is a key Region XIX and Garden State Athletic Conference match between two talented rivals.

Coach George Hobbins' team, led by sophomores Justin Phy (Triton Regional) and Tyler Liberkowski (Triton) along with freshmen goalkeepers Connor Rink (Haddon Heights) and James Bartolotto (Gloucester Catholic), hopes to bounce back from a 1-1 tie against Union on September 17.

"We have a fierce rivalry with Brookdale, and we need to take advantage of every offensive opportunity to get a lead and hold it," said Coach Hobbins. "If you let a team like this stay in the game, it comes back to hurt you."

Kickoff is at 12 noon.
