It all came down to a simple offensive adjustment and strong goalkeeping. That formula proved to be a winning combo as the Roadrunner Men's Soccer team emerged victorious by a 2-0 score over visiting Penn State Lehigh Valley in their season opener on Tuesday.
Freshmen Owen Ogden and Shane Baker snapped a first-half scoreless tie with late goals, while sophomore goalkeeper Gunner Hoffman recorded a shutout to help the Runners prevail on a steamy, sun-drenched afternoon.
Ogden's goal came at 76:00 with an assist from Baker, while Baker added an insurance score with an assist from Liam Lamina at 84:00. Hoffman, meanwhile, stopped all five shots on goal.
"We made an adjustment in the second half by switching to a 4-4-2 set," said Coach George Hobbins. "We ended up scoring the first goal about a minute later. It changed everything."

Hobbins also was happy with Hoffman's play.
"Gunner did a nice job today, and it's important that we shut down other teams defensively," said Hobbins.
The Runners will face a tough test in their second game of the Fall 2021 season when they meet Camden County College at Rutgers-Camden on Thursday in a 4 pm start.
