Mendoza, Maslin Deliver Late Heroics as Roadrunner Men's Soccer Stuns Previously Unbeaten Montgomery CCC!

While Tuesday's dramatic 2-0 triumph over previously unbeaten and host Montgomery County Community College can be considered a signature win for the Roadrunner Men's Soccer team, Head Coach George Hobbins is not surprised that his squad emerged victorious.

And why shouldn't his team be confident at this important juncture of the 2023 season? The Runners notched their fourth straight win to improve to 7-3 overall while serving notice that they are a top contender to go deep in the upcoming Region 19 playoffs.

The game was scoreless at halftime before the Runners oulled through with some late heroics. Freshman midfielder Gilmer Mendoza continued his fine season with two  second-half goals as time was winding down for the win. The first goal, scored at 84 minutes, was assisted by goalkeeper Lucien Maslin (his third assist of the season!). Mendoza's second goal was unassisted at 87:00. Maslin also continued his superb campaign by turning in his fourth shutout of the season.

"This was a quality win over a quality program," said Hobbins afterwards. "We kept working hard in the second half and were able to wear down Montgomery.

"Gilmer (Mendoza) was phenomenal once again -- he never stops attacking on offense," noted Hobbins about Mendoza, who now has seven goals and two game-winners this season. "And Maslin covered the nets well like he always does -- plus I've never seen a goalie come up with three assists in one season! It's unheard of!"

Mendoza breathed a sigh of relief following the win at The Proving Grounds Complex in Conshohocken, PA, stating" "I'm glad we were able to pull together in the final minutes to get the win."

Next up for Hobbins' team will be a home game vs. Raritan Valley on Saturday, Sept. 30th in a 12 noon start.
