Bethea, Bateman Spark Offense as Roadrunner Women's Basketball Tops Brookdale CC

Following Thursday's 72-50 triumph over visiting Brookdale, the Roadrunner Women's Basketball team sits in a position that Head Coach Rich Cooper likes --- right at the very top of the Region 19 and GSAC standings.

Jermyra Bethea led all scorers with 19 points, finishing with a double-double, while Mya Villari (13 points), Aaliyah Bateman (11) and Shannon Pierman (10) also finished in double figures.

Providing the spark in the first half was Bateman, who sank three consecutive 3-point baskets to lift the Runners to a 40-30 halftime lead. Bateman's three-point barrage helped the Runners snap a second-quarter tie with the Jersey Blues on their way to a 10-point halftime lead. The game was tied twice in the second quarter before the Runners pulled out to the halftime lead. In the second half, RCSJ outscored the Jersey Blues by a 32-20 count to seal the victory.

The win was the third straight for Cooper's team and boosted the Runners' overall record to 10-2. Heading into the winter break, the Runners sit atop both the Region 19 and GSAC standings.

"I like the way our team has bonded and supported each other," said Cooper. "We've had one bad game where we didn't play our best (in a loss to Camden County College), but we've made the adjustments and we're getting everyone involved in making contributions."

The Runners are off until January 7th when they visit GSAC rival in a 5 pm tipoff.
