Men's Soccer Turns in Solid Two-Way Effort in Spring Game at NCAA Division II Georgian Court

The RCGC Men's Soccer Team played their spring game at Georgian Court University on Saturday April 14, turning in a hard-fought and commendable effort resulting in a 3-2 score in favor of the host NCAA Division II Lions.

Georgian Court came out fast and scored in the opening minutes of the game taking the 1-0 lead. After the first 15 minutes, the Roadrunners settled in and had an opportunity to tie it but saw Osman Barrie's shot miss wide of the target. Zach Piro had a chance at the 20-minute mark to tie the game but saw his shot miss at the near post.

Both teams played end-to-end soccer in a nice possession game with both teams having chances. At the 30-minute mark the Lions struck again beating Chris Lenahan to make the score 2-0. RCGC continued to attack as Dusun Ortak saw his head ball off a corner kick saved by the Lions goalkeeper. Then, off a nice combination, Zach Piro found Osman Barrie who cut the Lions lead to 2-1.

The defense led by Bob Andrews played very well together as a unit. The midfield started to control the play with Paulo D'Alessandro, Dylan Skidmore, Zach Bille and Andrew Sooy playing crisp passes. Late in the game, the Lions scored again to open the score to 3-1 beating goalkeeper Nik Anagnou.

The Roadrunners wouldn't quit and continued to work hard in the attack when Joe Mendoza found Ortak, who finished a nice low shot to the corner. The game ended 3-2 with the Roadrunners losing to the Lions of Georgian Court University.

Coach Hobbins noted afterwards: "We were pleased with the effort today. It gave us an opportunity to look at our returning players. It also gave a few new players an opportunity to play. Georgian Court University is a quality program and we enjoyed having a chance to knock it around today."
The RCGC Men's Soccer Team begins pre-season on August 6th.
