Rowan Derby 2022: Roadrunner Men's and Women's Soccer Teams Sweep RCSJ Cumberland at Rowan University!

The Runners' Men's and Women's Soccer teams swept to wins over RCSJ Cumberland in Tuesday night's Rowan College Derby at Rowan University -- with each squad bringing home the prestigious Jersey Shield in the process.

Coach Maria Grady's Women's team edged the Dukes by a 1-0 score thanks to a first half goal by sophomore Crystal Johnson with an assist by Madison Bridges along with solid goalkeeping by freshman Emma Baus.

Also performing well was forward Angelina Bluford, who registered 8 shots on goals, and backs Hailey Hartwyck and Carley Bridges,

The win raised the No. 10 nationally ranked Runners' record to 6-4 overall Next up will be a 4 pm game match on Tuesday, Oct. 4 vs. Middlesex College.

In the nightcap, the Runners' Men's team built a commanding first half lead en route to a 5-0 victory over the Dukes.

 

 

Fred Renzulli, Kevin Martin and Bailey Cifone all scored first half goals to give Coach George Hobbins' team a 3-0 halftime advantage. Jerry Green and Owen Strohm added late second-half goals to close out the scoring. All told, the Runners unleashed 17 shots on goal.

Goalies Jason Coburn, Joe Lomas and Jake Fisher combined for the shutout, stopping all three Dukes' shots.

Next up for the Men's squad will be a 12 pm road match at Bergen Community College.

 

Derby Preview

GLASSBORO, NJ -- The Rowan College Derby is scheduled to be played at Rowan University on Tuesday night between the RCSJ Men's and Women's Soccer teams versus the RCSJ Cumberland squads. The adjusted schedules are as follows:

Women's match
Roadrunners vs. RCSJ Cumberland, 5:00 pm start time

Men's match
Roadrunners vs. RCSJ Cumberland, 7:00 minutes start time (or 30 minutes following conclusion of women's game)

The winners of both the men's and women's matches will being home the celebrated RC Derby Shield to be presented by RCSJ South Jersey Dr. Fred Keating.

The No. 4 nationally ranked Roadrunner Women's Soccer team enters their match with a 5-4 overall record vs. RCSJ Cumberland, with the Dukes entering at 0-2 early in the campaign.

In the men's match, the Roadrunner sport a 3-5-1 overall record entering the match. The Dukes enter with a 1-5 record coming off a recent win over Atlantic Cape.
