The postseason has arrived, and Roadrunner Men's Soccer Coach George Hobbins hopes his club is ready to repeat last season's success when the Runners captured a Region 19 title and later won two games in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament.
The Roadrunners appear ready for the challenge -- and that challenge begins Tuesday night when they visit Middlesex College in a Region 19 DIII East A bracket semifinal contest. The Runners have earned the No. 5 seed overall while Middlesex checks in as the No. 4 seed.
Hobbins' team concluded the 2024 regular season as one of the hottest in the Region, reeling off seven straight wins to finish 11-5-1 overall.
The two teams met during the regular season in September with the Colts claiming a hard-fought 2-1 triumph at home.
"We're putting it all together, especially on the offensive side," said veteran Coach George Hobbins. "We've bonded well in the last few games -- and we have several legitimate scoring threats."
Offensively, sophomores Robert Piontkowski (12 goals), Jacob Garrett (9 goals), and Angel Collazo (9 goals) lead the club in scoring.
Defensively, returning All-Region 19 defender Lucas Fryc is one of the best in the Region. The goalkeeping proved solid down the stretch as freshman goalie Diego Torres Eguiluz registered six shutouts and allowed just six goals in 11 games started this Fall.
The winner of the semifinal will advance to the East A bracket championship game on Friday, Nov. 1. against the winner of No. 9 Montgomery vs. No. 1 seed Camden County College.
