Former South Jersey soccer star and Hall of Fame player Craig Wicken has been named Head Coach for the Men's Soccer team starting with the upcoming 2025 season.

The new head coach recently served as an assistant coach under former head coach George Hobbins, who resigned recently after 11 seasons.

Wicken played his college ball at Rider University following an all-star career at Washington Township High School. He was inducted into the South Jersey Coaches Hall of Fame in 2020 and is a member of the Rider Athletics Hall of Fame.

The new coach was grateful for his one season as an assistant coach under Hobbins.

"You learn a lot working under an experienced coach like George Hobbins," said Wicken. "Coach Hobbins handled everything on and off the field with our players in a first class manner. He had a lot of success here, and I hope to build upon that success."

Aside from his recent stint as an RCSJ assistant coach, Wicken served as a head coach on the club level in West Deptford, guiding his 2007 and 2009 West Deptford Fury girls' teams deep into the state cup tournament, and has mentored many top players in the region.

The new Roadrunner coach is excited to coach at the local college level, and has scheduled meetings with his players and staff. He is also hot on the recruiting trail.
He has scheduled meetings with his current players and staff and is already hot on the recruiting trail.

"South Jersey has a lot of soccer talent and I'm excited to see how far we can move this program forward," he commented. "We will recruit actively in the region and will continue to be very competitive."

Wicken played his college ball at Rider University and led the soccer team to back-to-back MAAC Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. He was named the two-time MAAC Player of the Year and is the Rider career scoring leader with 49 goals and 122 points. Wicken led the Broncs to a national ranking of 15th. He was inducted into the university's Hall of Fame in 2005.

Wicken is also a member of the South Jersey Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame as well as the Washington Township High Athletics Hall of Fame. He and his wife Kim have 2 daughters and a son.
