Shorthanded Roadrunners Hang Tough But Fall to Brookdale CC

First-year guard Kadinah Harris-Hood and the rest of her Roadrunner teammates gave it their all – but in the end, the host team fell victim to injuries and a depleted roster in a 73-64 Garden State Athletic Conference loss to Brookdale on Tuesday night.

Harris-Hood, a former Atlantic City High School player, led the effort with 20 points, but the shorthanded Roadrunners saw a 6-point halftime lead disappear early in the fourth quarter as the Jersey Blues posted an 8-0 run to take the lead for good.

"We gave a great effort – we just didn't have the resources tonight," said Coach Rich Cooper, who finished with six players while losing starting guard Naiyana Sabb to an injury in the first half. "Kadinah (Harris-Hood) kept us in it the whole night, but Brookdale went on their big run in the second half, and we couldn't dig ourselves out of the hole."

Behind by just one point, the Runners committed four straight turnovers and watched the visitors convert 8 straight points to climb into a 63-54 lead.

The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the conference. Brookdale improved to 13-1 overall and 9-0 in the conference. The women's team will next host Montgomery CC (PA) in a 5 pm start on Thursday.
