Region 19 Women's Basketball Championship: Roadrunners and Cougars Are Familiar Rivals

Region 19 Women's Basketball Championship: Roadrunners and Cougars Are Familiar Rivals

Will the third meeting between the Roadrunner Women's Basketball team and Camden County College Saturday follow a familiar pattern between familiar rivals?

RCSJ Coach Rich Cooper knows that this match-up for the Region 19 championship, with a berth to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament on the line, will likely be a fight to the finish -- again!

"The two teams know each other as well as you can know another team," said Cooper. "It all comes down to execution and determination."

The Runners fell one-point short last winter in the Region title round, dropping a heart-breaking 68-67 decision to Middlesex College.

Coach Cooper and returning players, including guards Destiny Hines, Faith Rosa and Jonaysia Clark along with forward Maxine Ampofo, hope to turn the page vs. Camden County.

"We missed a big chance last year, and we are determined not let it happen again," said Hines, a sophomore All-Region performer.

The Runners, who edged Montgomery, 54-49, in the semifinal to advance to the title game, won both regular season games vs. the Cougars, 76-60, and 72-70.

But those results don't matter, according to All-Region forward Maxine Ampofo, a sophomore.

"All that counts is Saturday, and we have a lot on the line here," said Maxine., who hit two clutch baskets to spark the win over Montgomery. "We have a chance to to win the region and go to nationals. It's up to us to play our game."
