Deveney-Bethea, Canty Spark Roadrunner Women's Basketball Past Bergen CC

The duo of freshmen Trina Deveney-Bethea (Cedar Creek) and Qeiajae Canty (Atlantic City) scored 21 and 20 points respectively, as the RCSJ Gloucester women's basketball team stopped visiting Bergen County Community College by an 88-78 decision on Saturday in GSAC action at home.

Deveney-Bethea pulled down 12 rebounds in a winning effort.

Also scoring in twin figures were forward Nikita Acker (Triton), who deposited 13 points, and forward Kadinah Harris-Hood, who had 10. Acker also contributed four key steals to spark the win.

The victory was the third straight for RCSJ-Gloucester and seventh in their last eight games,

The Runners claimed an 18-14 first quarter advantage before expanding the lead to 47-31 at halftime. The Bulldogs outscored the Roadrunners by a 47-41, but the Runners held on for the triumph.

Next up for Coach Rich Cooper's team is a home game against Atlantic Cape CC on Thursday, January 9 in a 5:00 pm start.

The Roadrunner women's basketball team will look to win their sixth game in their previous seven outings when they host Bergen Community College in a 12 noon start on Saturday, December 21.

Top scorers for Coach Rich Cooper's Runners include freshman guard Qeiajae Canty (Atlantic City, 15.9 ppg), and forwards Nikita Acker (Triton Regional, 9.3 ppg) and Trina Deveney-Bethea (Cedar Creek, 13.7 ppg, 8.2 rebounds/game). Sophomore guard Mya Lewis (Cherry Hill West) and forwards Kylar Coughlin (Gloucester) and Kadina Harris-Hood (Atlantic City) also are enjoying solid seasons.

The Runners will try and win their third straight contest following a 72-59 win over Middlesex Tuesday night. "It was a struggle right from the start -- Middlesex came prepared and gave it everything they had," said head coach Rich Cooper. "We got off to a bad start and had to settle down the pace in the second half."

The Runners enter Saturday's contest with a 9-4 overall record. They will face a Bulldogs' team that enters the match-up with a 9-3 overall record.
