Roadrunner Women's Basketball Tops Ocean County College to Remain Unbeaten

Roadrunner women's basketball coach Rich Cooper feels his team has earned much-deserved respect.

Who can argue the point? The Runners are off to a 4-0 start, with the wins including this week's upset over No. 13 nationally ranked Prince George's County (MD) and Thursday evening's 75-37 triumph over host Ocean County College.

All of RCSJ's victories have been on the road, and two were against top Division II programs along with the triumph over nationally ranked Prince George's CC.

"We have had a tough opening schedule and we feel we've played well enough to be recognized nationally," commented Cooper. "We've had the chance to let all our players get court time, so everyone knows what's it like to be in pressure games."

Against the Vikings Thursday, forward Riley Starke led four players in double figures with 12 points while guard Syria Bass contributed seven assists and seven steals from the backcourt.

Other top scorers included Trina Deveney-Bethea (11 points), Jilonne Daley (11), and Danielle Jeffreys (10). Daley scored all of her points in the first half as the Runners raced to a 46-20 halftime lead to tale control of the final outcome.

Next up for the Runners will be an away game at Passaic County Community College on Saturday followed by their first home game Monday vs. D-II Harcum College.
