Canty, Roadrunners Survive Tough Battle to Turn Away Host Passaic County CC

The Roadrunner Women's Basketball team continued their perfect 2021-22 season with a hard-fought 71-63 road triumph over Passaic County Community College Saturday -- but head coach Rich Cooper sees room for improvement.

RCSJ raced to a 22-7 first quarter lead, but Passaic whittled away at the advantage and came to within 4 points before the Runners put it away.

The team improved to 5-0 overall with a tough conference and region schedule ahead on the horizon.

Sophomore Qeiajae Canty dominated play with 16 points and 15 rebounds, including 13 offensive boards. Sophomore forward Danielle Jeffreys tossed in 14 points while sophomore guard Syria Bass netted 11 points and registered 3 assists. Guard Jilonne Daley chipped in with 8 points and 2 steals.

"We started well, but we got sloppy with the ball -- so we made this tougher on ourselves than we needed to," said Coach Rich Cooper. "Luckily, we haven't been hurt by this, but we have to clean up our mistakes.

"That being said, this is a very talented group and this team will be tougher to beat as we keep working with each other."

Next up for the Runners will be a home game vs. Division II Harcum College in a 6 pm start. The contest will be the first home game of the season.
