The No. 2 seed Roadrunner Women's Basketball team saw an early exit against tough opponents in the NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament, which took place March 9-12 in Rochester, MN.
On Day 1, Coach Rich Cooper's Runners dropped an 84-73 decision to No. 7 Minnesota West in the NJCAA Division III National Championships quarterfinal.
No. 1 Owens emerged as the National Champion, defeating No. 11 Hostos, 65-56, in the championship final on March 12. See complete results below.
The Runners dropped into the consolation bracket and played No. 3 Onandaga in a Friday contest.
Freshman forward Danielle Jeffreys led the RCSJ scoring with 15 points while teammates Madison Dulude and Riley Starke added 11 points each.
Tia Murray paced the winners' offense with 23 points, helping her team to an 18-point halftime lead.
On Day 2, the Runners lost a 90-78 decision to No. 3 Onondaga. Five players scored in double figures in defeat, including Canty with 18, Trina Deveney-Bethea with 15, Nyasia Clark and Riley Starke with 12 each, and Danielle Jeffreys with 11.
The Runners finished their impressive 2021-22 season with a 24-4 overall record while also winning the North Atlantic District title earlier in March.

Tournament Preview
Wednesday is opening day of the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championships at the Rochester (MN) Regional Sports Center, and the RCSJ Gloucester team will be keeping a close eye on the results -- from the sidelines.
That's the luxury you have when you are named the No. 2 overall seed of the tournament -- exactly the position Coach Rich Cooper and his Roadrunner find themselves.
The No. 2 seed Runners will have a first-round bye, and will play the winner of Wednesday's 5 pm game between No. 10 Rhode Island and No. 7 Minnesota West. The Runners' then play their quarterfinal contest on Thursday in a 7 pm start EST.
"We're excited and we will be ready for our next opponent," said Cooper, who will be competing in his second National Championship Tournament of his coaching career. "Every team brings something to the table, so we need to step up our play."
The Runners will begin the tournament with a record of 24-2. Other teams that enjoy first-round byes include No,. 1 seed Owens, No. 3 Onondaga and No. 4 Rochester. First-round games on Wednesday are found below.
