Jeffreys, Roadrunner Women's Basketball Rebounds With Solid Win Over Previously Unbeaten Nassau

Back on track -- thanks to plenty of defensive intensity.

Following a heart-breaking loss Thursday night, the Roadrunner Women's Basketball team turned up the defensive pressure Saturday, rolling past previously unbeaten Nassau Community College, 72-50. Coach Rich Cooper's team improved to 4-2 overall with the win while the Lions fell to 4-1 overall.

Sophomore forward Danielle Jeffreys continued to emerge as a team leader, scoring a game-high 21 points -- her second straight outing with 20 or more points following a 28-point effort vs. Community College of Philadelphia.

"We knew we had to increase our defensive intensity," said Cooper. "We had plenty of offense the other night against Community College of Philadelphia, but we just weren't stopping anyone."

Jeffreys, meanwhile, helped the Runners off to scorching start, pumping in 17 first half points to lift the squad to a 39-27 halftime advantage. Freshman guard Jonaysia Clark continued her fine season by netting 8 points.

"Danielle has really started showing her leadership abilities," said Cooper. "We've had a couple injuries this season, but she has really set the pace."

Next up for the Runners will be a home game against Anne Arundel (Maryland) Tuesday in a 6 pm start. That contest will be followed by the men's game at 8 pm.
