Sophomore guard Jonaysia Clark returned to the lineup Friday, pumping in 23 points to lead the Roadrunner Women's Basketball team to an impressive 75-59 win over host Kingsborough Community College Friday in Brooklyn, NY. The win was the ninth straight for the Runners, who improved to 9-2 overall after starting the season 0-2.

Clark had plenty of support as teammate Jermyra Bethea collected 16 points and 17 rebounds while Destiny Hines added 12 points.

"It was great having Jonaysia (Clark) back in the lineup -- everyone was feeding off her energy," said Coach Rich Cooper. "This was a tremendous win for our program."

The Runners raced to a 12-point halftime lead and extended the advantage to 18 points in the second half before holding off a Wave rally late in the game for the win. Kingsborough lost for just the second time this season, falling to 8-2 overall.

Next up for the Runners will be a home contest vs. Ocean County College in a GSAC match on Tuesday, January 9th at 5 pm.

Gameday Preview

It's showdown time in Brooklyn, NY this afternoon as the Roadrunner Women's Basketball team faces a huge test when they meet Kingsborough Community College in a 3 pm tipoff.

The Runners, coached by Rich Cooper, enter the game with an 8-2 overall record that includes an 8-game win streak. The host Wave, however, will counter that with an impressive 8-1 overall record, recently seeing a 7-game win streak sdnapped in a close loss on the road.

"Kingsborough has a taller lineup than we do and a lot of talent -- and we're excited to take on this challenge on the road," said Coach Cooper. "Playing a tough team like Kingsborough will help prepare us for our own playoffs down the road."

The Wave have two top scoring threats in forward Tionna Davis, who averages 19.8 points per game, and guard Jayden Vega, who averages 16.4 ppg.

The Runners will counter solid play from forwards Maxine Ampofo, Tireya Wyatt and Deborah Beecher along with guards Faith Rosa and Destiny Hines among others. Ampofo, Rosa and Hines all average in double figures in the scoring column.

Following their game at Kingsborough, the Runners return home Tuesday night to host GSAC rival Ocean County College in a 5 pm tipoff.
