It all looked promising for the Roadrunner men's basketball team as they appeared destined to topple visiting Brookdale Community College and snap a seven-game losing streak Saturday. But it did not work out as the Jersey Blues escaped with a 74-68 victory.
The Runners held leads of 36-32 at halftime and 55-46 before the bottom fell out in the final seven minutes. That's when the Jersey Blues went on an 18-0 surge to take a 64-55 lead, an advantage they never relinquished.
Three RCSJ-Gloucester players hit double figures. Forward Stan Martin (Willingboro) led the way with 22 points while guards Nick Sambour (Williamstown) and Danny Williams (Bridgeton) contributed 13 and 12 respectively in a losing cause.
Martin deposited 16 of his 22 in the first half.
The loss dropped RCSJ-Gloucester's overall record to 2-12 on the season. Next up for coach Will Logan's Runners will be a home match against Middlesex on December 17 starting at 7 p.m.

The Roadrunner men's basketball team will look to snap a seven-game losing streak when they host Brookdale Community College in a 2:00 pm start Saturday, December 14.
Offensively, the Runners have shown plenty of firepower, led by sophomore Stan Martin (Willingboro), who is averaging 17.7 points per game. Guard Danny Williams (Bridgeton) is enjoying a solid season, averaging 13.4 points per game. He is joined by guard Nick Sambour (Williamstown), who checks in with a 10.5 ppg and forward Tim Schultice (Timer Creek), who has collected 11.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
But despite a tough-luck start, the RCSJ squad remains upbeat about the second half of the 2019-20 campaign as the season moves forward.
"It's been a tough start to the season," forward Tim Schultice said recently. "We've been competitive with a lot of teams, but we haven't been able to close out games."
