Roadrunner Men's Basketball Eyes Strong Start to Second Half of Season

Roadrunners' men's basketball coach Will Logan is hoping his team has turned a major corner. If recent history is any indication, the Runners may indeed be looking at a brighter future and a better start to the second half of the 2019-20 campaign.

Logan's youthful team has endured a rough 4-12 start to the current season, dropping several close contests in the process. But in the past two games, the Runners have emerged with a pair of wins against solid opponents, and more importantly have added some additional firepower to the lineup.

Prior to the holiday break, RCSJ-Gloucester earned victories at home versus Middlesex (63-57) and Bergen Community College (89-74). Sophomore forward Stan Martin (Willingboro) pumped in 26 points while teammate Tim Schultice (Timber Creek) fired in 24, leading the Runners to their second straight triumph, an 89-74 GSAC win over visiting Bergen on December 21.

"We had a nice win over Middlesex, but everything really came together against Bergen," said Logan. "Our younger players are starting to understand the system and make the plays they need to."

Logan has also received some additional good news. Sophomore Alex Angeles has become eligible to join the roster in the second half of the season. Angeles proved to be a spark off the bench a year ago, averaging 6.0 points per game, but also turning games around with his hawkish defense and solid play in the transition game.

"Alex (Angeles) could provide us some needed leadership and offense," said Logan. "He should give a boost to our younger guys and hopefully help us win some of the close games."

Logan's team will also play a stretch of games in which they have a realistic shot at winning all three -- January 9 at home vs. Atlantic Cape, at Sussex County on January 11, and at home vs. Salem CC on January 14.
