Randall, Rogers Set Pace as Roadrunner Men's Basketball Holds Off Community College of Philadelphia

The 2022-23 season has shown one recurring theme for the Roadrunner Men's Basketball team: Coach Rich Casey's team knows how to win ugly and they use strong defense to get the job done.

How else to explain Thursday night's 62-56 triumph over visiting Community College of Philadelphia, the defending Region 19 champion, as well as the Runners' improbable 4-1 overall record?

"We're learning a lot about ourselves, and yes, all of our wins have been ugly," said Casey, whose team has now won four straight.  "But we are doing it with great defense.

"One day we'll wake up and put it all together on both ends of the floor -- and we'll see what a good team we have."

Leading the way on both ends of the court were center Josh Randall, guard Quantavious Rogers, guard Khayri Ransom and forward Darnell Demby.

Randall and Rogers led the way offensively with 19 and 12 points apiece, and they combined with Ransom (9 points), Demby (9 points) and Eriq Campbell (7 points) to ramp up the defensive pressure in the closing moments to secure the win.

Randall and Campbell combined for 5 blocks and 5 steals while Randall also pulled down 12 rebounds to effectively shut down the Lions' offense.

The game was tied with just under four minutes remaining, before the Runners outscored CCP by a 9-3 count down the stretch to emerge with the win.

"This was another tough way to win, just ugly really, but we're confident we'll get the job done," said Randall afterwards. "We don't back down and we work hard."

Next up for the Runners will be Division III rival Anne Arundel in a 6 pm start at home on November 22.

Game Day Preview

Roadrunner Men's Basketball looks to continue early season surge, hosting Community College of Philadelphia in 7 pm showdown on Thursday night, November 17th.

The Runners have won three straight since an opening day loss at Delaware Tech, but will face one of their toughest challenges of the young season vs. CCP. The Colonials are coming off a season in which they won NJCAA Region 19 and represented the region at the NJCAA National Championship Tournament.

Since opening day, Coach Rich Casey's team has received plenty of offensive balance from starters Quantavious Rogers, PJ Boyette, Josh Randall and Khayri Ransom among others.

The Roadrunners defeated Atlantic Cape CC on Tuesday 91-87 behind a 32 point effort from Randall.
