Roadrunner Basketball Coach Brandon Williams witnessed perhaps his team's best overall effort this season when RCSJ hung on for a 72-62 triumph over Delaware County Community College on Saturday, January 20.
That's when the Runners snapped a two-game losing streak with the triumph over the host Phantoms in what proved to be a see-saw battle from start to finish.
"It was a great overall team effort everybody played and and everybody contributed in a huge way." said Williams afterwards. "In the second half we played great overall team defense"
After exchanging leads early on, the Runners moved out to a 37-31 halftime lead -- despite two of their best players, Chris Racobaldo and Chance Kershaw, sitting briefly with early foul trouble. Delco CC kept to within 4 points through most of the second half before Racobaldo, Kershaw and guard Nathaniel Taylor stepped up their efforts to exit with the win. Taylor pumped in a game-high 22 points, including five crucial free throws down the stretch. Racobaldo connected on pair of key three-point baskets while teammate Angel Garrett chipped in with a timely 13 points.
"This was a competitive game all the way, but overall this was the best we played together as a team," said Williams. "Guys were sharing the ball, we controlled the glass and played great team defense."
The win ended a two-game kid and improved the Runners' record to 8-9 overall. Next up will be a tough home match vs. GSAC power Brookdale CC in a 2:30 pm tipoff on Sarurday, January 27th. The Jersey Blues currently are ranked as the No. 1 NJCAA Division III team in the country. Watch for more details.
